Teen Titans Go! Wiki

"The Day the Night Stopped Beginning to Shine and Became Dark Even Though it Was the Day" aka "The Night Begins to Shine" is a special miniseries that is dedicated to Cyborg's favorite song, The Night Begins to Shine, and the twenty-seventh-thirtieth episodes of the fourth season of Teen Titans Go! and the 184th-187th overall episodes of the series.

This is the second special that has more than two parts, making it 44 minutes longer than merely 11 minutes.

Summary[]

"Chapter One: I Saw You Dance" - Cyborg becomes trapped in the alternate reality of Night Begins to Shine with a dragon who wants to steal the song for his own evil purposes.

"Chapter Two: The Story in Your Eyes" - Without Cyborg, Beast Boy feels lost and sets out to find himself, but ends up meeting a music legend.

"Chapter Three: Playing Hard to Get" - The Titans return to the alternate reality to save Cyborg but will they be able to defeat the dragon?

"Chapter Four: The Night Begins to Shine" - In a final epic battle, the Titans and their musician friends square off against the dragon for control of the Night Begins to Shine.

Characters[]

Song[]

  • Night Begins to Shine
  • Night Begins to Shine (Dragons Remix)
  • Night Begins to Shine (Fall Out Boy version short)

Trivia[]

  • These series of episodes are also the second mini-series with the first one being the special summer event titled, Island Adventures.
  • This is the second special of the series that has more then two parts. The first being Island Adventures, which contained a total of five parts ("Coconut Cream Pie", "Pure Protein", "Open Door Policy", Crazy Desire Island" and "The Titans Show").
  • This special also begins exactly a year later after Island Adventures.
  • This special is also known as, "The Night Begins to Shine."
  • Unlike the episode "40%, 40%, 20%" which got big critical acclaim, this event made more mixed reception.
  • Tara Strong and David Kaye were casting in this event, they're known to be the voices of Ben Tennyson and Grandpa Max from the Ben 10 2016 reboot.
  • David Kaye also voiced Megatron in Transformers: Beast Wars series, and his final form was big red dragon
  • There's an online game available on the Cartoon Network website titled "The Night Begins to Shine", which is loosely based on this event.
  • While in their cool designs, originating from "40%, 40%, 20%", Robin asks why could they look like this all the time in which Raven replies "it's too rad". This maybe aimed at the "haters" who loved those designs in "40%, 40%, 20%" and who claim they will only watch the show if the Titans looked "cool" at all times in the Teen Titans Go! contingency.
  • When CeeLo Green came to record his voice for the episode, he brought his dog Zu along with him, which is what led to the cameo appearance of the little dog.
  • According to Tara Strong, Pete Wentz and the other members of Fall Out Boy are fans of Teen Titans Go! and many other shows that she lends her voice to. They asked her if they could make an appearance, and this led to them lending their voices for the special.
  • The dragon looks similar to the one on the cover of the song from “40%, 40%, 20%
  • According to cast interviews, the real William J. Reagan (Billy) is an actual mechanic.
  • Fall Out Boy and CeeLo Green recorded their own renditions of The Night Begins to Shine, as well as Puffy AmiYumi, the artists of the original Teen Titans Theme and the Teen Titans Go! Theme.
  • This is the longest episode title in the series, with a total of 71 letters.
    • On most guides, it's simply listed as "The Night Begins to Shine Special".

Continuity[]

  • This is the second episode of the series (the first being "40%, 40%, 20%") that is dedicated to the song The Night Begins to Shine but the first multi-part episode that is dedicated to the song.
  • In the alternate reality while battling the dragon, Cyborg transforms into a diesel for the second time shown in the series. The first time was in "40%, 40%, 20%".
  • William. J. Regan refers to himself as a "sweet, sweet 20%" of B.E.R. This refers back to the episode "40%, 40%, 20%" where Cyborg attributes a percentage to each member of B.E.R. for their contribution to creating "The Night Begins to Shine".

References[]

  • Cyborg transforming himself into a vehicle is a reference to Hasbro's Transformers.
  • Raven mentions to CeeLo that their situation and request might seem "crazy" and then chuckles, asking if he gets it. "Crazy" is a song CeeLo's sang as half of Gnarls Barkley.
  • When the other Titans were trying to cheer Beast Boy up, Raven insists of having a Meatball Party, which is a very obvious callback to the episode, "Meatball Party".
  • There are two very easy to miss DC Comics references in this episode:
    • When the magazine flips open to reveal the B.E.R logo, the E is actually an article on the Demon Etrigan. And the B is from an article for Bane's Back Breaking Workouts while the R is for Red Hood. The Etrigan article also mentions the "case of Batman v Superman".
      • When Silkie coughs of the vomit in the shape of the B.E.R logo, he also coughs up a Red Lantern Ring as well. There is also a key for Arkham Asylum and Two Face's quarter.
        • When Beast Boy says, "Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool", it's a reference to the line in the theme song for The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.
  • The episode title is a reference to the 1971 song "The Story In Your Eyes" by British rock band The Moody Blues.
  • CeeLo Green says "This is crazy" referencing to the song, "Crazy" from the group he was formerly in called Gnarls Barkley.
  • B.E.R.'s robot transformation has some clear references to the French electronic music duo Daft Punk.
  • Carl Burnett's helmet is a very similar to the helmet used by Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Cristo during their so-called Discovery era.
  • When the Fall Out Boy transform into a giant robot, sound effects from Dragon Ball Z can be heard.
  • Billy's helmet resembles the one used by Thomas Bangalter in the same era: they both have the ability to display text messages, shown when they are singing Forever Mine, and the short, straight slit present where a mouth should be.
  • Carl plays the drums, as does de Homem-Cristo, and Billy plays the bass, as does Bangalter.
  • Along with Cyborg, when Fall Out Boy transformed themselves into vehicles and into Fall Out Bot, it's a reference to Hasbro's Transformers.
  • Fall Out Boy's transformation into vehicles is a reference to several properties from the 1980's-1990’s.

Errors[]

  • When the first part premiered on August 1, 2017, a text was shown saying "to be continued…" with Sweet in the background, however, when it airs as reruns, the card was removed probably because it's a 4-part special, and the episodes were confined together as the special.

Running Gags[]

  • The Titans interrupting famous musicians, making them wonder, "Who let them back here?"
  • Cyborg saying "Did somebody say, Dance Party?.
  • The pigeon knocking over important items from Billy's past.
  • William J. Regan referring to all the things he and his band mates "saw".
  • The Titans shouting out the names of new characters entering the fight against the Evil Dragon.
