"Where Exactly on the Globe is Carl Sanpedro, Part 2" is the second episode of the four-part special of the same name, the 26th episode of the sixth season of Teen Titans Go!, and the 287th overall episode of the series.

Summary[]

Carl Sanpedro has struck again, this time in Jamaica, so the Titans take off for the Caribbean.

Plot[]

Continuing from the last episode, the Titans are with Berto in San Pedro. Berto calls the Titans 'Gumshoes,' and as usual, Starfire takes this literally and checks her shoes if there is any gum on it. Raven explains to Star that "gumshoes" is another word for detective. Berto repeatedly says gumshoes to the Titans, and Robin yells at him to stop. Berto then informs that Carl Sanpedro has escaped again, hiding in Jamaica. The Titans get excited that they're going to Jamaica, but Robin says that this trip is going to be educational, and the Titans instantly lose their excitement. Beast Boy gets mad, and Robin explains that they are 'globe-trotting gumshoes,' which means learning interesting facts about other countries while tracking down Carl. Star puts her hand on Robin's shoulder and asks if he knows what he is talking about. Robin is confident that he knows and has gone through video game experience to know about it. Berto hands Robin a confidential folder, which says that Carl and his goons were seen in Montego Bay, stealing Brian E.S. Jone's ox tail soup.

The Titans travel to Montego Bay, Jamaica to find Carl and his henchmen. While exploring the city, Cyborg spots one of Carl's henchmen. All the Titans but Robin start beating up the henchmen, and Robin stops them. Robin apologizes to the henchman and says that his fellow 'gumshoes' are new to this. Robin lets the goon go, and Cyborg asks why he made such a stupid move. Robin explains that the henchman only serves one purpose: to inform them that Carl is in the area. Shortly after, they investigate the museum to see if Carl is there. The Titans complain that this is a waste of time, but Robin says this is a perfect chance to get a warrant, as they are trying to learn Carl's personal interests to identify him. They then go to a port to check for more clues. Robin talks to a parrot, and the Titans yet again complain that they are running out of time. Robin explains that talking to a parrot gives them good 'intel.' The parrot makes a squawk, and Robin says that Carl's favorite hobby is mountain climbing. At the same time, a cab drives by, and the windows roll down with Berto inside. The Titans are happy to see him and ask if he is here to help them on a case, but Berto says that he's just here to call them gumshoes again and drives off. Cyborg suggests that he can just look things up on the internet, but Robin insists on using a giant book called 'The Gumshoes Almanac'.

Robin dares Cyborg to use the internet!

After several hours of searching through the giant book, Robin finds that reggae music (after finding that out in the hotel) originated in the city of Trenchtown. The Titans start beatboxing and they visit Trenchtown. At Trenchtown, they spot one of Carl's goons at a fountain. The Titans start beating up the henchman again, and they get a flyer of Dunn's River Falls and proceed to go there. Robin forces the Titans to do acapella beatboxing again before they depart.

At Dunn's River Falls, they spot Carl's figure and start beating him up, but turns out it was a pineapple as a decoy. The real Carl is behind them and starts throwing spears at the Titans. The Titans start to chase Carl, but the ground is littered with bear traps, and Beast Boy and Cyborg step into them. After five minutes of chasing, they finally catch Carl and retrieve the stew. The Titans handcuff Carl and hand him over to Jamaican Police Officers. However, the Titans don't have a warrant and don't know Carl's personal info, so the officers let him go. Looks like the chase is on again! Berto appears out of the bushes, and Carl is at another part of the world again, and the episode ends with Berto saying 'Gumshoes' a million times.

Characters[]

Trivia[]

  • The Titans mention Brian E.S. Jones when his ox-tail stew got stolen. Brian E.S. Jones is an animation development executive for Warner Bros. Animation who worked on numerous DC animation works including this series. He is also the executive in charge of production for Cartoon Network.
  • The fourth wall is broken by the Titans noticing the timer in the top right corner.

Continuity[]

  • Starfire misunderstanding English and taking expressions literally is displayed.

References[]

  • This episode has the most explicit references to the Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? game in the whole mini-series:
    • In the game, you have a limited number of hours to catch the thief, and all actions take one or more hours to perform.
    • You must visit one of three locations in each city, and each offers a hint to where the thief will go next and who he or she is.
    • If you visit the correct city, a henchman will appear at the first location you visit there.
    • Players were not expected to look up information online to solve the clues because the Internet as we know it didn't yet exist in the 1980s. Instead, copies of the Junior World Almanac were sold with the game.
    • You must get a warrant for the thief to arrest him or her, and to get the warrant, you must first enter clues about the thief's physical appearance or personal preferences into a database. Carmen Sandiego herself was only the thief in the final case, after solving some two dozen others. In earlier cases, you were trying to apprehend members of Carmen's gang with punny names like Polly Esther Fabrique and Alexander Graham Edison.
    • The "acapella beat-boxing" is a reference to the popular PBS game show of the 1990s based on this game. It featured doo-wop performances by a band named Rockapella.
  • The Titans got a clue from the hotel that reggae is linked to Carl. Reggae is a style of popular music that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s and quickly emerged as the country’s dominant music. By the 1970s it had become an international style that was particularly popular in Britain, the United States, and Africa.

Errors[]

  • The Titans only have 36 hours to catch Carl, and they spend 8 hours on the plane traveling to Jamaica from California. Raven could've saved that time by teleporting the Titans to Jamaica.

Running Gags[]

  • Berto saying "Gumshoes".
  • Robin forcing the other Titans to do acapella beat-boxing.
